Geneseo, IL – Experience the big loud fun of a bygone era of steam hissing, whistling engines, and clanging brass bells, while you take a vintage steam train ride through the countryside on Saturday, September 7, in Geneseo. Train enthusiasts of all ages can take a 90-minute round-trip ride between Geneseo and Annawan aboard a train pulled by a coal-fired steam locomotive.
In 2011, a local resident took 13 family members, ages 18 months to 59 years old, on a memory-making family adventure. We had several elderly folks who took a step back in time and it was a nostalgic trip for them. The train ride is also a railroad photographer’s delight. It is an 18-mile round trip to Annawan and back and I was amazed at how many photographers and spectators lined the route just to get their view.
The 2013 train excursion is made possible by conductors from around the country who volunteer their time together in partnership with the Iowa Interstate Railroad and Patriot Renewable Fuels in Annawan. Steam train rides are a lot of fun and provide the opportunity to see things from a different perspective. Ride tickets are $14 for adults, $7 for kids 2 to 10, 2 and under are free. Trains leave Geneseo at 9:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., and 1:30 p.m. To book your seats, and seats are limited; call 309-944-2686.
